The Santa Fe Trail

As a child, I was fed a steady diet  of cowboy television and films that gave a very lopsided view of the American West and its native population. Even then, I had a sense that I was not getting the full picture. In my travels in the USA over the years, I have tried to get a clearer picture  of the conflicts caused by Manifest Destiny, of the lives of the early settlers who struggled to make new lives for themselves, and of the native people who are still left despite years of attempts to eradicate them and their culture.

So it is with this in mind, my trip through the west has taken me through some pretty amazing country and wild places that were home to these enduring peoples.

I travelled from Mesa Verde through Pagosa Springs along highway 84 which cut through the Southern Ute reservation, Jicarilla Apache Reservation and  down into Pueblo Country at Santa Fe.

I am staying at my cousin Heather's and her Husband Paul's Adobe house for a few days before heading on through west Texas

They will be the last familiar faces i will know until I get to Tennessee

My little abode for a couple of days ♥️
